Code of Ethics for Breeding
At Annagh Irish Red and White Setters, we breed with vision and purpose. We have written our “Breeding Code of Ethics” to surpass the minimum requirements and recommendations of the Canadian Kennel Club.
We protect the interests of our puppies and their “forever” families by selecting dogs with excellent temperament and vigorous health, while adhering to the standard for this breed. Each litter is bred from dogs that are registered with a recognized Kennel Club. Pedigrees and dogs are selected to protect and improve healthy bloodlines and to maintain the original purpose, standard and conformation of the breed.
Annagh Irish Red and White Setters certifies that all of its breeding stock has been cleared through:
- DNA testing under the “PawPrints” complete genetic panel, with the results published in the Orthopedic Foundation of Animals (OFA) database.
- All of our breeding stock will be cleared for eyes within 1 year prior to each breeding, and results published in the OFA database.
- All of our breeding stock will have blood tests for Thyroid clearance within 1 year prior to each breeding.
- All breeding stock will be X-ray cleared for health of hips and elbows.
Annagh Irish Red and White Setters will use only breeding stock that is stable and confident demonstrated by the dog being shown and handled at conformation or performance shows. Veterinarian visits and public outings with other dogs and people are an everyday part of the dogs’ lives in our home-raised program.
Annagh Irish Red andWhiteSetters pledges to NOT breed a female until she has reached 3 years of age, and not older than 6 years of age. Our females will be titled by CKC in conformation, hunting, obedience or agility prior to entering our breeding program.
Each Annagh female will have no more than 2 litters or 20 puppies.
Annagh Irish Red and White Setters pledges that our males will not Sire more than 4 litters or 40 puppies maximum. Our males will be titled by CKC in conformation, hunting, obedience or agility prior to entering our breeding program.
Annagh Irish Red and White Setters will select and interview prospective buyers to ensure new families have a good understanding of the needs of an Irish Red and White Setter. We want to avoid frustration and disappointment for new owners by providing them with the realistic requirements to loving and sharing their home with a purposefully-bred hunting dog.
Annagh puppies are a lifetime commitment to us, and we will provide support to them and their new families throughout each dog’s life.
